Harry P. Leu Gardens

Description

This lovely 50-acre botanical garden situated on Lake Rowena offers visitors a chance to escape into Old Florida. Wander miles of paved paths through forests of giant camphors, oaks and palms. The formal Rose Garden is the largest in the South, but don't pass up the opportunity to visit the herb, butterfly, palm and bamboo gardens as well. Towering over all this natural wonder is the Leu House. Built in 1888, it now serves as a decorative-arts museum. Tours occur on the half hour.

Entertainment for the Whole Family
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/21/10
First thing that we found out is that the only Monday that you can get in free is the first Monday of every month between 9am-12pm. We went on a Monday because we had read that it was free. Please make note of this change. The entraince fee is minimal, but it was still unexpected. It is 7.00 per adult, and 3.00 per school age children (plus tax). The place is beautiful. At the overlook, we saw turltles of all sizes. Flowers, trees, plant life, vegetables and more can be seen. Slightly disappointed in the butterfly garden. Because it is an open garden, there is no way that you control the lack of butterflies. We were there in last week of June so the most of the roses were wilted, but it was still beautiful. The tour through the Leu house was a very nice (cool) break from our walk through the gardens.

A Place worth revisiting again and again!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/3/09
This is a huge, and hugely beautiful collection of plants with a large and lovely rose garden featuring numerous varieties. Wide easily navigated paths wind over gentle hills and through shaded glades. Sculptures nestle here and there, along with benches and water fountains. It's a photographer's dream in every season. We drive over and spend a day walking and shooting each time we visit my daughter in Melbourne. It never grows old, or boring. And I can't wait to go back this spring.

Love is in the air!!!
By Tracy, 11/15/06
We were married at the Leu Gardens on October 19th and fell ABSOLUTLY in love with the place as well as the staff member- Dot. They were more than willing to do anything it took to please us! From the first time that we visited the gardens we met Dot Williams and she was with us through to the end! She fit so well with us it was like she was family. Because of her and the splender of the gardens we will be going back as much as possible. We look forward to being members and seeing the differant events that they have planned for the gardens. It is so hard to believe that you are in downtown Orlando when you go.
