Always remember, you get what you pay for!

If you're looking for a Royal Carribean or Carnival Cruise experience, Discovery is NOT for you lol :-) I read reviews before I went and was a little nervous, most were far fetched and few were true. I don’t think some of them realized, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR! You’re not going to receive 5 star services for $99. I'm here to share my experience, the good and the bad.
We departed 4/17. Myself and 2 children. I purchased the cruise and stay package, 2 nights at the all inclusive Viva Wyndham in Grand Bahama Island for a total $955,this included of course the round trip cruise on Discovery and a cabin both ways, all visa fees and to/from shuttle service from the resort in the Bahamas. Amazing, amazing price for what was included (I'll mention below). We arrived at 7am, going through security was a breesze, the check-in was confusing but we had a staff member assigned to us to help us, he was the epitome of a great customer service employee should be, all of the staff was so helpful and nice. I will tell you this - **people who bought the cruise and stay package received VIP service.**
Once of the ship, we were shown to our cabin (only $50 both ways) and then we went to a breakfast buffet. Pretty good just your basic eggs, bacon, sausage, cereal etc...The boat left at exactly 8am as advertised. The ship is older, so expact the fixtures and furniture to make you feel like it's 1976 :-) We laid out by the pool which doesn't get filled until 15 miles off the coast - fyi. We went to the top deck for "entertainment", which consisted of one limbo contest and it kind of died out after that. They played reggae, soca, salsa - cool music to get you in the mood for the islands.
Drinks as you know are all inclusive - they weren't watered down or too strong, they were good. I liked the strawberry margarita! Food for purchase was okay, moderately priced. We watch a movie onboardm here'sthe kicker: It was advertised in the theater at 10am. We're there at 10 however there was no movie - just staff members asleep in the darkly lite room in the theater chairs. Apparently the movie was relocated to a lounge which was very nice - we viewed "Tangled", in the lounge with nice flat screen televisions. Afterwards we went to our cabin. It was small but had a bathroom and was clean. My only major complaint was the smell in certain parts of the ship! The other reviews you may read about the smell are true! It’s a mixture of mildew and possibly rotten food. The cabins especially reaked of it! We also spent some time in the VIP lounge which consists of couch seating areas, a plethora of lifestyle magazines – if you’re into Life & Style and US like me! Also a large flat screen television. A staff member escorted the cruise and staff folks off, helped us through security and filling out paperwork and then to our shuttle.
On the day of departure 4/19 – our shuttle that took us back to the boat was a bit late. Once we arrive at the cruise port = again the guys on the boat were right there to help us get checked again. As I mentioned earlier because of the package I purchased, we were able to skip allllllllllllllllll of the other passengers which was a lot and board the ship first! The boat was about 20 minutes or so late departing. The dining experience was great. Instead of the dinning buffet apparently I made reservations for the dining room and forgot. Nice formal dining setting – food was good, service was great.
Debarking was a breeze; taxis were out front to take you to your destination. If you’re looking to go on a “cruise” Carnival has good rates this time of year. If you’re looking for a cheaper alternative to airfare to your Bahamian destination and would like to have some fun and have time to kill for 4 hours, DISCOVERY CRUISE LINE IS FOR YOU!!! Look at it as a ferry to your final destination! I hope my review is helpful!!
