Lastnight my lifelong girlfriend & I were going down memory lane from our childhood in the 1960's. We have wonderful memories of going to church camp at Owaissa Bauer in the summers. We remember an elderly gentleman who lived there & had 2 donkeys. He would hook them up to a wagon & take us for rides. The most interesting part was the stories of early life & history of that area. He would take us down trails to see the sink holes & other things of interest to that area. This is such an excellent place to see & experience the real & natural FL of old, the untouched sights & sounds that no longer exist in most parts of south FL anymore. We are talking about going back for a visit to re-experience those wonderful days of old. I would recommend this place to anyone who is truly interested in experiencing & seeing the original FL.
The camp is a great example of what florida once used to be. I think that the cabbins are a great plus to the camp and gives it a special charm. In addition the camp has plenty to do like going swimming in the pool or just enjoying nature on a quiet walk. The camp also has a great dinning hall with a very large kitchen. Finaly I can't say enough about the park manager Pam who helped any way possible.
