Wallflower Gallery (The)
This remarkable downtown gallery, easily identified by the giant mural on its exterior, showcases work by those artists who struggle most including the new, the young, and the unknown. Exhibitions are as diverse and multifaceted as the artists who present them. Special events and productions (usually presented on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays) include poetry recitals, fashion shows, lectures, concerts, and classes.
I was in Miami for a long weekend and had been to the Wallflower before. I went there with three friends without even checking what was happening- it is such a unique and wonderful place that I had NEVER had a dull or poor visit their. We just went even though I know my friends are all insightful and demanding people with a love a real art and a disdain for the schlock. We arrived just after dinner- two in heels- two in flats (it doesn't matter- the place is accepting of and loved by everyone it seems. So what was there- 3 amazing sinder songwriters- each told a story behind a song and then played and sang it- 3 very different talents. Flash had set up the show and as usual what he thought would fit together well did.
Go! Visit this place- it is comfortable edgy artistically true with a varied client base, group of exhibitors and performers. You can't go wrong- as I said, I (am my friends) never have. A great stop after dinner!
