Miccosukee Indian Village & Airboat Rides

Description

Generations ago, Miccosukees, a branch of the Seminole tribe, took refuge from the Seminole wars in the depths of the Everglades marshland. At this enclave you can see a typical village of thatched-roof, open-sided huts. Tiny squares of brightly colored cloth pieced into the famous Seminole quilting patterns unique to the tribe make wonderful souvenirs. Airboat rides on flat-bottomed craft propelled by jet engines skim across the Everglades for a look at alligators. At special shows, brave wrestlers tackle the toothy reptiles to show you their lethal teeth.

Great visit, fascinating people and a must see/do
By Pete, 3/17/12
We made an effort to find this place out as we didn't want to sit on an airboat with loads of other people. When we arrived we were greeted and taken to our airboat, just the two of us, and taken out to find alligators, shown abandoned village buildings and the village meeting place and market area. The villagers are friendly and helpful. They answered all our questions and even took some photos for us. Our guide made us feel special by giving us lots of commentary on the places that he took us to. He also made us feel that we were getting to see things and places that other people didn't. Whether that was true or not didn't matter, we felt it was true. At the end of our airboat ride the guide again asked if there was any questions and answered all that we asked. We were also given the chance to hold/handle baby gators and have photo's taken. I would recommend this venue over and above the other air boat rides that are available, unless of course that you want to be hoarded around and crammed onto an airboat with 20 other people. If you want a great airboat ride, personal service, and knowledgeable guides, PICK THIS ONE!

never again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/19/11
The airboat tour was a big disappointment. Just 10 minutes at full speed to a place where you could walk around and see two oranges and absolutely nothing. Then 10 minutes at full speed back. We saw nothing. No mangrove, no alligator, nothing. The village was a construction place. The people in the gift shop were incredibly rude. If you have nothing to show, at least be friendly. The toilets were a no go either. Somebody left his anger there... The only good thing was the alligator show.

Super Great experience 5 star
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/29/10
We arrived late and were surprised to find two different entities. The village, wrestling etc. on one side, price $8.00 per adult, and the airboat touuur, priced $10.00 per adult are exclusive, so your visit was $18.00 per adult. We took the airboat , and our guide Rob Sanchez was out of this world, he is an incredibly knowledgble, and enthusiastic guide. He took the time to show us exotic lillies and spider flowers as well as an abandon medicine man's encampment. The enthusiasm, knowledge and just the spirit of fun from this young man was incredible. We saw form a distance of 4 feet a 15 yr old female, Jumper and got the history and many odd facts from Rob. Could not have asked for a better guide, calling the tribe tomorrow to nominate him for employee of the year!!!!!!!!

Best part was leaving
By David Shapiro, 12/22/09
I have been on another airboat tour before in a different location and that one was great. This was a 1 out of 10. The guide was rude and didnt talk to us. Didnt make an attempt to find alligators to show us. Also they provide cotton balls for your ears, other places will give the ear muffs.

Two Words - Don't Go
By MiltonH, 7/13/09
We went there on a Monday, paid $8.00 per person, went in and left in 5 minutes. The museum was not open and there was nothing there to see at all. At the entrance, there is a notice - No Refunds. Aptly posted because I am sure many people want there money refunded.

Bored driver
By don d, 1/23/06
I have taken this airboat ride out to Indian village 3 times in the past and enjoyed it. I enjoyed it this time also, but not because of our driver. Driver showed up driving a hummer, jumped in boat and took off .Let us off at Indian Village, and then brought us back Said about 4 words the whole time . I think it went like this We will here 10 minutes ,at the village. There was another airboat driver there from another company that showed us an alligator and explained things. I was ver disapointed in our driver.
