Knaus Berry Farm, Homestead

When you drive up and see the lines, don't let it discourage you. The food is well worth the wait, and time will go faster than you think. There are so many other things they offer - sweets, pies, breads, jams and jellies - fresh produce. If you choose not to make the drive, you are reallly missing out. Our family's tradition is to buy the hot cinnamon rolls, get a fresh strawberry milkshake, go to the car, roll up the windows and eat ourselves into a sugar coma! Worth the drive? YES. Worth the time? YES.

This is the best place for sticky buns, pies and bread. Don't forget a great place to pick strawberries. We go 3 or more times a year. Not too far from Miami and worth the trip. Go early as it gets crowded. For a location note, it is across the street from Redland Middle School.

They�re not Quakers and they�re not Amish, as many people assume, but they do produce some of the finest fresh baked goods money can buy in South Florida. Knaus Berry Farm is operated by Dunkers (a sect of German Baptists) with a reputation for outstanding organic produce and fresh flowers, fruit flavored milkshakes and homemade ice cream. But the one item that causes those long lines to form out front in the morning and last until they close at sundown is their world famous sticky buns. A little patience pays off as you work your way to the counter for a chance at the warm cinnamon pecan buns. Also notable are the herb bread sticks, honey wheat bread, black bottom cake, shoo fly pie, cheesecake, pineapple upside down cake and the brownies. Don�t bother waiting until you get home � resign yourself to enjoying the fresh baked goods right out of the oven, even if it means spoiling your next scheduled meal.

As of today Jan 11th 2006. I called the Berry Farm and they have extended their season. They are open now and until the middle of November right before Thanksgiving. Okay, now if you think the grocery stores that have the baked pies are good... Knauss Berry has the ONLY pies to mark your calendars for the holidays. You must! My recomendation to try their pies for the holiday you'll never regret doing so. I only wished that they had a loation up the road; say like the Gainsville,Ocala region. It would be a very worth while thing without becoming a chain store.

My husband grew up in Homestead and insists that whenever we are in the area that we stop by. Our favorites are their fresh herbs, Cinnamon Buns,Herb sticks and their awesome milk shakes....if you are in the area, make sure you stop by!!

DELICIOUS!!!! We had a great time. My son was almost two and he loved picking the strawberry.
