Joe's Stone Crab
Fans of crustaceans should make it a priority to eat here. For nearly 100 years, the folks at Joe's have been serving up the freshest, most delicious seafood in greater Miami. You can dip the house specialty in drawn butter or a mustard sauce. Reservations are not accepted, so get here very early or be prepared to wait. The place is a favorite with locals and tourists. Be sure to call during summer months, as the restaurant closes down during part of the summer.
Long wait while others who came later got right in despite their "first come-first served" policy. Overpriced food in a nice building. The food is at best mediocre. We had no time for anything after a 1 3/4 hour wait because the waiter asked us to order and within 5 minutes, brought ou food. We felt that they would have preferred we just leave our $150.00 so that we could be out faster. An old restaurant living on its history and the knee jerkers who proclaim its superiority because it is supposed to be superior. Just my opinion though. I was there on March 30, 2007. Not again.
Great service, great food, great history! First restaurant in Miami beach with the same family owners. Everybody goes to Joe's, we saw a tons of celebrity during our evening there and came back for lunch the next day
The food was great and we had a great time once we sat down. But a 2 hour wait for crabs is a bit much. There are other place in south Flordia to have stone crabs. It's worth at least one trip to say you've been there.
Joe's stone crab is famous the world over for its stone crabs. The rest of the food is very good as well, although I have to say it seemed a bit to caught up in itself and took itself way too seriously.
This was orginally a crab shack and now seems to want to dress it self over in the guise of fine dining. Which it isn't, although you wouldn't know it from the prices.
The stadd is excellent and the food is wonderful, but the cavernous dining area, while wonderful is not that of a fine dining facility more like the main dining area of a Don Pablo's.
While I enjoyed the epxerience I belive it should be cheaper and not ala carte to boot.
I have never been so dissapointed at the food from the take out section at Joe's. I ordered a rueben lobster sandwich and all I got was 2 pieces of lobster about the size of a quarter in my so called "sandwich", and one spoon of colslaw to go with the dry bread. I will never go back there, getting a table is too tricky to get, considering you have to deal with the rude people at the Hostes. Service is rushing at all times, and to make matters worse, they have increased the prices of stone crab to the extreme. Very dissapointing.
This restaurant is the best seafood restaurant I have been to in a long time and I am from Virginia Beach, VA, home of the seafood restaurants! The service was first class, the food was delicious and the atmosphere gave off a feel as quality. My first time to South Beach, Miami, and everywhere I went people said, "Go to Joes!". We went to great lengths to get there and when we did it was well worth the effort. My husband is very critical about his food, and he left smiling:) Joe's is a must in Miami.
This place as the most awesome garlic crabs. We didn't go to the restaurant. We had them shipped to Sunnyvale, CA. Everything was great when they arrived. They were very fresh (NOT FROZEN!!!). The blue crabs are a bit of work, but I couldn't see having stone crabs like that. Oh the horror. :) But hey, that's just me. As far as I'm concerned, the blue garlic crabs are worth the work. One thing that's not so great is that you have to call btwn certain hours during there day time, and they only take orders for the day you're calling. No ordering ahead.
