Located right in the middle of crowded Old Town Key West, this place is an "island in the stream." Owner Nancy Forrester has somehow managed to face down the pressure of development and the tree-tearing fury of hurricanes in order to keep this 30-year-old garden pristine and magnificent. Here you will see the tropics in all its foliage glory with exotics such as orchids nestling in branches, huge ferns, bromeliads, red ginger, pink heliconias and a "sunburn" gumbo-limbo tree. Bring a picnic lunch and tour the onsite art gallery, as well. Admission is USD6.

Hidden Key West Treasure
By Diane, 10/13/08
We found treasure in the Keys this past week when we visited Nancy Forrester's Secret Garden in Old town Key West. There are not that many signs describing the plantings but, who needs a sign that says "Beauty here! Look!" My family ages 26 to 77 found the garden a haven from the concrete and it was a beautiful place to to just "be." Nancy herself talked to us for quite awhile and allowed my son to have his picture taken with one of her great endangered birds. The parrot jungles charge you out the wazoo for that type of photo op, but Nancy gave us that wonderful moment because she knows... she knows that we will never forget that day. She knows our environmental awareness was raised. She just knows... what's good and right and how all living things should be revered..and cared for. Thank you Nancy!

K..W. is lucky to have this beautiful place.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/19/08
My friend and I went to the garden right before closing time and were never made to feel rushed. The plants are so beautiful and in this natural setting look almost unreal. Everything is placed as if it just appeared...nothing looks staged. My favorite thing was being surprised by the talkative and brightly colored birds. Most of the birds are friendly and want to have some of your attention. It was hard to leave, but I plan to return many times and bring along someone new each time.

Will never go back
By Steve, 03/31/08
Vastly overrated...while distinctly different from surrounding neighborhood, it is but an overgrown backyard with no plant identifications or thoughts to the layout. Certainly not worth the $10 per 'human'. Very, very disappointed....spent my time sulking in a Key Lime pie....

Hidden Oasis
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/13/07
Wonderful place to see lush trees and incredible flowers. We actually went to a wedding in this garden and it was a beautiful, serene backdrop. Also great for birdwatching and photography. We had quit a suprise when we found all the parrots and other tropical birds. For $6 this is a steal as well as an oasis.Wonderful escape, these gardens are just beautiful.

10 Year Anniversary
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/03/06
My husband and I were married in Nancy's Secret Garden almost 10 years ago (on Nov. 26). We are planning on celebrating our anniversary this year in Key West. A trip back to Nancy's Secret Garden will complete the trip. We have very fond memories of the Garden and our beautiful wedding day and are really looking forward to seeing our special place. I highly recommend it for special occasions or just a beautiful walk in the garden.

We visited 2005 ,after finally locating the Garden[via local knowledge] upon entering the grounds and putting 8 dollars each in the " DONATIONS " box ,we were accosted by a lady , appearently Nancy , who said " didn't you see the donation box " so we admitted to donating and asked if we should leave now? she begrugingly allowed us to visit.Having said this 'I would still return with guests every time. It's that good!
