Dolphins Plus Inc.
Dolphins have long been considered man's closest ocean-dwelling friend. Here you can swim with one. First you participate in an hour-long educational session, then you swim with the dolphins for about 30 minutes. In a more structured opportunity, you spend 45 minutes with a dolphin trainer and then enter the pool where the creatures push you through the water and dance with you. The cost for that is $150. Reservations are required for both activities, and you can also tour the facility where research is done.
We went to DOLPHIN PLUS yestarday ; we come from denver to florida just to simming with the dolphins; and the first instructor was excellent she gived us a pre swimm instructions very good; but, when we went in to the water we got a diferent instructor, and we feel she was dissatisfied with us for some reason, probably because we are hispanic, but any way she ordered a couple of exercises to the dolphins and us ; and inmediatelly she took my two dougthers and me out of the water with no explanation, the simming time should be 30 min instead 15; and we paid for 30 not for 15.
But any way , the money is not important but the attention it is; and we feeled frustrating because we used 3 days to be here in Florida, and what we recived from DOLPHIN PLUS was a really poor attention for an imprepared person.I definitelly DO NOT RECOMMEND this place.
We did the sealion swim as well as cuddle with castaway...we had sooo much fun and the staff was very friendly. The sealion swim was really neat my 7yr old LOVED Wono! As for cuddle with castaway I have two sides to that! my 16yr old sister was sooo happy with it...she got to hug and kiss castaway and do belly rubs etc. However in I would have prefered to swim with the other dolphins that can do more active participation (jumpin through rings, pulling you around, etc)...but if you want something calm its a great experience! All in all we really enjoyed the place!!!!
we bought a CD with pictures of us swimming with dolphins. Unfortunately, I didnt check CD untill we got to new york, the CD was blank. I called DolphinsPlus and they said they would send me another one...but they wouldnt mail it internationally (I live in France), so I gave them a U.S. address of my friend. When I received a second CD I could only open a couple pics and the rest 148 pics just wouldnt open... I just think that the staff there is very unprofessional... I dont recommend DolphinsPlus...
I went to Dolphins Plus with my girlfriend for the structured swim program. We had a wonderful time getting up close and personal with these magnificent animals. I had originaly booked this for my girlfriend, but I think I had just as much fun as she did.
I definately recomend this experience at least once.
Great Staff, Great fun, wonderful experience, great education. T'would be good experience for families. I've been with groups of adults and had life altering experiences with these lovely people and my dolphin buddies. You'll keep going back and find that the dolphins remember you. Truly a rewarding event.
Dolphins plus was one of the most treasured experiences of my life. My partner and I were in the water for about 45 minutes for the structured swim with two dolphins, the dolphins were playful and had their own unique personalities and the surroundings are as natural as they could be. It is obvious to an outsider the care that is put into dolphins plus and all the instructers were extremely helpful. I am not usually comfortable in seawater but I felt very safe and would definately reccomend dolphins plus to anyone considering it!!!!!
If you are tired of the beach - this was an amazing experience. To be have one-on-one contact with the dolphins was such an upbeat time. There are a couple of places in the Keys that do this - I think this is the best.
You spend an hour with a trainer who talks about dolphins in general, what to do/not to do, and what to expect in the water. You can either do a structured swim, a free swim, or a combination. It is not inexpensive - but I would do it again in a heartbeat. You are in a small group - and there is plenty of time in the water with the dolphins. It is as natural environment as it can be - you are in salt water pools right off a canal that - leads to the bay and the ocean - not a staged or created environment.
I think it's great for kids - there were some 6-8 year olds - as long as you can swim, it's fine. The structured swim was best for us this time - but I would love to go back for the "free swim."
If you have the opportunity , go!!
