Casa Cayo Hueso Restaurant
One tip to finding a good restaurant while traveling is to eat where the locals eat. In that case, El Meson de Pepe's Casa Cayo Hueso Restaurant is definitely the place to go. With some of the best Cuban and Spanish cuisine around, the restaurant boasts a prime location overlooking Mallory Square. Live salsa music and specialty drinks add to the allure. The food is considered "Cuban Conch," consisting of Ropa Vieja (shredded beef and tomatoes), Palomilla Steak, and the Spicy Mollete a la Pancho.
By far the best meal of the vacation. Mojo sauce is amazing! Can't beat the fried plantain chips anywhere. Mojitos were great too. Get appetizers and share dinners; best way to experience it all. Was there in May, no wait for a table and got to see the sunset. The patio is a great place to enjoy dinner. Do be aware of the chickens! Not the ones on your plate, but the ones running over your feet under the table.
Great Place! Make sure you either make reservations or make plans to wait for a table. Ask for a spot in the garden.
I am craving the bread and mojo sauce! Do I have to go back to KW to get some more? The mojito was a wonderful experience... but expect to pay 10 bucks a piece!
Service is a bit erratic during season.
Do NOT use the restrooms if you don't have to. They are open to the public and they look it!
Cigar store has a good selection, but you would do better with the men rolling by hand on Duval St.
A must stop for anyone looking for a taste of Cuba!
My kids won't let us go to Key West without a stop at Casa Cayo Hueso. Located just off Malory Square, the restaurant offers courtyard seating that makes you think you are dining in Cuba. We like to go watch sunset off the pier, then go immediately to the restaurant for quick seating. If you hesistate, you will end up waiting. Kids love the cats that roam the walls of the courtyard, or watch the chickens walking around as well. Great food, and the Mojitos are fantastic.
This was one of the best places to eat throughout the entire Keys. We started off with a Mojito, which was so refreshing from the heat. Then we split a pitcher of Sangria, which had plump ripe fruit in it. I had an entire Yellowtail. The waitress was kind enough to help me remove the tender meat from the bones. It was blackened and had amazing seasonings on it. I had black beans, fried plantains, yucca and rice. I could hardly finish. My friend had a combination plater which was huge, but I forgot what he had, because I was so amazed with my food.
The most impressing part was when the bill came. It was so cheap. For the two of us it came to $68. This coming from a place that is only a 5 minute walk from where the giant cruise ships drop tourists off. I was suprised by the limited gouging. The waitress was so friendly and so outgoing.
This much loved restaurant reportedly was once the site of boxing matches refereed by none other than Ernest Hemingway. Now
you will find avant garde artwork in the gallery upstairs and great chow at modest prices in the restaurant. ...
