Colony West, Tamarac

My wife and I typically play golf 3-4 times in this area. We had never played Colony West in the past due to the high price, but this year the green fees were very reasonable, so we played. Now I understand why it was priced much less than prior years. The course was in poor shape. The fairways were hard and had very little grass. My wife, who typically drives the ball 180 yards, was banging out drives 220+ because the fairways were like concrete. Their add claims that Golf Digest ranks them as one of the top 50 public courses in America. I suspect that was many years ago, The greens were very fast but in reasonably good shape. Many of the bunkers had very little sand. The par 3 tee areas had no grass. The good news is that the staff was great. Very friendly and helpful What a disappointment to see a great layout in such bad shape. I understand there is new ownership so I hope they can turn this around.

A sour taste is left on one's palate when a facility attempts to take advantage of the public. Such was the case when the price of golf was artificially and significantly raised when the superbowl was played last year. For the sake of a relatively small increase in revenue over the weekend, the course will lose a lot more in lost revenue due to short term greed. Good luck and goodbye.

I love the golf course. We always play the green tees. It is very very demanding with no lay up holes. Overall, tees, greens and fairways are decently maintained. Everything else is REALLY bad! The cart paths are in great need of replacement and no attention is placed on them. There are no roughs; just hardpan, dirt and weeds. Employees are allowed to fish on property. This isn't good for the golfers and looks bad. The cart attendants are great and the bar atmosphere and the food are really good. Susan in the bar is wonderful!! The two guys are bad. They never smile or talk to you even when getting your drink. They have attitudes and are really bad.

I was visiting my father in Florida who lived right by this course so I decided to play it. I am glad I did. The course is as challenging as I have played in a while. They placed some dog-legs and trees in the right spots to make you really think twice about pulling your driver out. I chose not to play from the Greens which would have been impossible for a 15 hadicapper, but even playing from the blues was really tough. The proshop personnel were very friendly and gave me pointers as to shots to look for on certain holes, which was very helpful and the bar was nice...if you were a Steelers fan. All in all, I would recommend anyone play this course if you are ever in the Ft. Lauderdale/Tamarac area.

The course is awsome, the Pittsburgh bar is great, you can't beat the atmoshphere or the prices, needless to say our 1st time playing the course we had a blasty.

I recently played the Championship course at Colony West and it was all the course I needed. I used every club in my bag! The pro shop staff even saved me money on green fees by telling me about the special card that they offer! Finally, what I like best about Colony was the atmosphere at the sports bar. After golf the wings and beer where a great way to end our vaction!

Great Course (Championship), The staff is great, the course is a big challenge. Long, tough, and great greens. This is the Florida golf experience I was looking for! I played some other courses in the area, but this was the most fun. Plus they have a great Sports bar!

As far as challenging courses go the Championship course at Colony West was all the golf course I needed to see. The thing is a monstor....it's like 7300 yds. long SICK! I played the green tee's shot a 77, and that was mostly luck! Couldn't imagine the gold tee's at 7300. Great staff, great food! And I don't know who the poster from Germany is, but maybe he didn't realize that when he played the glades course in November HURRICANE WILMA had hit the course smack dead on!!! Category 3 Hurricanes tend to do some damage. The courses are great, good value, good food, Highly reccomended.

My last trip to Colony West was on November 25th right after catagory 3 hurricane Wilma nailed it. The crew must have worked extremely hard to fix the course after the devestation because the surronding communities looked like a war zone due to the hurricane, but the COURSES LOOKED GREAT!! I enjoy both the Champ and the Glades courses, and the fact that I can book tee times on their web site while I'm home is Boston is pretty cool, even for an older guy like me. I highly reccomend the Championship course, and the Glades course if fun for a break, or if you need to lick your wounds after the Champ brings you to your knees. Great Course!!!
