Stranahan House

Description

Built in 1901 by the "father of Fort Lauderdale," Stranahan House is the oldest residence in the city and now an historic riverside museum. The elegantly restored house contains antiques, turn-of-the-century furnishings and old photographs of the area. It is also is an example of classic "Florida Frontier" architecture. Previously used as a post office, town hall and general store, it is now occasionally used for concerts and other events.

A Great Afternoon!
By ,
We had an afternoon to spare, and how lucky we were to find this 1900's treasure just a few minutes from downtown. It's the original trading popst and home on one of the first settlers "Frank" and his wife, Ida. She was the first school teacher. Our guide told us about everything. Great fun!!!

A Hdden Gem

Located in downtown Ft Lauderdale the Historic Stranahan House Museum is a must see. It was orginally a trading post owned and operated by Frank Stranahan. In 1906 it was turned into a home for Frank an his wife Ivy. The tour is about 45 minutes and tells the history of the city, the contributions the Stranahans made to the area, their relationship with the Seminole Indians, and their lives in the river settlement. The Museum is open everyday, tours are offered at 1, 2, & 3 pm. $12 adults, $11 seniors, & $7 students and children.

Stranahan House

Great history, definetly a good place to visit. Not expensive at all, very friendly guides. Located in the best place in Ft. Lauderdale. Go today, and help them fight for their cause. Developers are going to build a huge building that will wrap around it, they will loose the beauty of the house, and we are going to loose our history. It is already hard to see it as it is, imagine with a big building wraped around it. It's a shame...
