Save the $8 \"suggested donation\"
I used to be a fan of the Phillips Collection but as it has increased in popularity, the gallery's poor management has made it an uncomfortable experience. During my visit I was followed throughout each room on the main floor by gallery staff who treated me like I was about to tear works of art off the wall and walk out of there. The gallery also admitted so many people while I was there that it was impossible to see the special exhibit in the upstairs space because of the masses of people. Staff was unfriendly and the suggested donation is ridiculously pricey for something that's not really just a "suggestion." Overall, the old charm of the Phillips has become elitist, stuffy and overpriced. With so many excellent galleries, there is no need to spend your time and money here.
