Designed by John Russell Pope, this Roman-style monument to Thomas Jefferson, the nation's third president and author of the Declaration of Independence, is elegant and simple. Jefferson's 19-foot statue stands within, surrounded by some of his most inspirational writings. This is a perfect after-dinner destination. At night, the view of the Washington Monument across the tidal basin is one of the most attractive in Washington, especially when the cherry blossoms are in bloom.

Jefferson Memorial
By RosemaryC, 02/16/07
Probably the most beautiful monument in DC due to its design and location. Situated on the tidal basin, the Jefferson Memorial is quite picturesque. I was there in August and thought it made a beautiful picture, I can only imagine how much more inviting this location must be when the cherry blossoms are blooming. I hope to return some spring just to see this site.

Jefferson Memorial
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/08/07
I really liked the Jefferson memorial mainly because of the view! From the steps, you can see the Washington monument and (i'm pretty sure)the White House- the view is the best part by far!

Thom's Place
By DJ, 01/01/07
This is my favorite memorial and whil it is a bit off the beaten path there is an excellent plan to visit this memorial and do other fun things at the same time. The memorial itself is probably the most beautiful and to me the most inspiring set on the tidal pool. Be sure to plan your visit in the summer and do two other things at the sametime; The FDR memorial (right next to it) and the Tidal Pool Paddleboating (just 4 blocks walk and viewable just across the pool from the memorial.

Nice to See
By Ted, 10/06/06
There is a reason that this isn't quite as famous as the Lincon Memorial. It's nice, but not as nice. There is a nice view and more stuff to look at than the others. A bit removed from the others, but certinally worth the time.

Beautiful Must-See Monument
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/12/06
It's a little hard to find by driving, but take the time. It's the prettiest monument on the Mall, and it's absolutely beautiful lit up at night. It's even more beautiful during the National Cherry Blossom Festival when the cherry blossoms are in full bloom surrounding it on the Tidal Basin.

Proposed at Jeff's!
By Jalal Z, 01/10/06
The Jefferson memorial is the best memorial in DC, beautiful location surrounded by a body of water. I proposed to my lovely flower there during a stormy day with heavy rain. It was still very romantic. Then we took pictures at the wedding.
