Located at the west end of the National Mall , the Lincoln Memorial is a principal landmark of the city. It offers magnificent views of the city from several vantage points. Daniel Chester French's 19-foot (5.7-meter) statue of Lincoln seated and deep in thought, along with the carved text of the Gettysburg Address, provides a glimpse into a weighty period of American history. The 36 Doric columns represent the number of states in the union at the time of Lincoln's death. Go at night for much lighter crowds.

The Lincoln Memorial
By Qiara, 12/06/09
I so enjoyed this placed. As a young child I didn't like the fact that we had to walk there. But once there I was so glad we made it. This monument was huge. It seemed like I was looking up forever at this statue of our old president. I would recommend anyone visiting the area to see the Lincoln Memorial. It was a very educational place to visit.

Nice to See
By Matt N, 12/02/09
This is a landmark of importance because of the history of the person of A. Lincoln. Its interesting to see, and I found it to be quite a somber experience. Kind of a glimpse into the struggle that he presided over and through during the civil war. I loved seeing it and recommend anyone who hasn't to stop by and see it at least once in your life. There isn't a ton to do though at the memorial itself, so it doesn't take long to see. That is the only reason I gave it a 4 star rating.

As it is also a part of the Capital Mall walk, you can't and won't miss it. It is truly a must see in DC.

The Lincoln Memorial is a sight to see! Seeing him seeing in the chair is overwheleming. You can also see the spot where the MLK gave his historic speech

Best Experience of my life so far!
By dani, 11/18/08
I loved the Lincoln Memorial. I had never thought I would get there. And there I was. I hadn't even started going up the stairs yet and I had to pause to take it in. It was probably the one place in DC that I actually got emotional. You could never imagine how big the statue of Abe really is until you see it for yourself. It was by far my favorite sight to see.

It really put into perspective the length men went for our country. The detail and size of the monument are amazing.
