Across the Potomac River in Arlington, Virginia is the headquarters of the armed forces of the United States, the largest office building in the world. Encompassing 29 acres, with a five-acre courtyard in the center, the five-sided structure has over 17 miles of hallways. Approximately 23,000 employees, military and civilian, come to work here each day. Group tours are available to Pentagon with a reservation.
My son is going to Washington D.C. this fall for the JrNYLC. It is for uprising 6th and 7th graders. They are suppost to get the chance to see the pentagon. I am not sure if they will be taking the tour but I sure hope so. I think it would be an awesome experience. Thanks for the info!
You need to know someone who works in the Pentagon to arrange a tour because of security issues since 9/11. But if you can go on one of the guided tours, it's well worth it. There is a lot of history there, and you never know who you might run into. The tour guides are members of the military honor guard. If your guide is experienced, they will have a lot of stories to tell.
