National Cherry Blossom Festival
One of the most celebrated and famous events in Washington, DC, this festival pays homage to the incredibly beautiful blossoms on around 3700 Japanese cherry trees circling the Tidal Basin. The trees burst with blossoms for only a couple of weeks in late March and early April, so tourists will want to plan in advance. The city is usually crawling with visitors to catch a glimpse of this extraordinary sight. See their website for a schedule of events, which include a parade, street festival, and many cultural performances.
This is one of the most beautiful times of the year to visit DC. The Cherry Blossom trees ringing the tidal basin erupt in magnificent pink and white flowers and provide for great photo opportunities. Walk from the Washington Monument out to the Jefferson Memorial, and all the while feel as if you were walking through a forest of soft clouds. The festival's a lot of fun, especially the Annual Kite Flying festival around the Washington Monument. There's great Japanese art exhibitions and dance performances. It's a lot of fun and you can find something to enjoy no matter what your initersts.
