Setting the Record Straight on the Statue
Just a brief response to kazwaddle, who castigates DC government for letting The Awakening statue move. That was the fault of the National Park Service, not DC government. (Where did you even get that, it's on National Park Service land?) The artist loaned the statue to the Park Service and hoped for a permanent installation. But, the Park Service wouldn't guarantee that the statue would stay at Hains Point. After decades of wrangling, the artist sold the statue to Gaylord, the National Habor developes, which is now where it stands. So, boo National Park Service. Boo J. Seward Johnson (the artist who sold it). But, DC...this was NOT the city's fault.
