Description

The friendly staff at Penn Grill & Cafe makes healthy sandwiches to order in this busy downtown shop. The walls and floor are basic white. Only a few tables are available and they are crowded near the front door. The owners are LOVELY friendly people (c: I am so grateful that this was the place we found first when looking for food at 6a.m. I drove all night leaving a vacation in Florida...to get my husband to DC for sunrise. We ate cheese omlettes ,wheat toast and the best homefries EVER at this restraunt. As we were enjoying our food, my mind slowed down enough to realize I was listening to Christian radio (c: We had 3 breakfasts for around 16 dollars INCLUDING 2 coffees and a carton of OJ~ THANK YOU to the owners for a great meal and fellowship.

Great Food/ Great Serivce/ Great Price
By ,
The owner is the friendliest guy in the F&B business in DC. It's a just a great lunch spot. Stir-fry it up, or get a hot deli sandwich made to order.

Excellent Service

The sandwiches are good here with a more healthy stir-fry option, and they truly give you service with a smile. It's amazing how much a smile can actually brighten your day.

Great Service in the AM
By ,
I stop by Penn Grill in the morning for breakfast once a week (sometimes more) and the people that work there are so incredibly friendly. They have memorized my "usual" and their food is really great. The prices for the items are very reasonable, but the atmosphere is definitely a quick-bite type of place. You will love it, especially if you're on the go.

Lunch of Choice
By ,
Penn Grill is great any time of day actually - be it for breakfast or lunch. While some people have complained that it takes time - it's only because it's so busy, especially at peak times. The choices at breakfast are rather varied, and are all tasty - hotcakes, french toast, eggs, grits, etc. I myself prefer one of their egg, cheese and bacon on a bagel sandwiches. Yes, you can get something similar at one of those bagel shops or the coffee shop at the corner, but there's nothing more satisfying than knowing that it's real egg, real cheese, and real bacon on a toasted bagel, neatly sliced in half for your convenience. As for lunch - they have such good grilled sandwiches, such as Philly Cheese Steak (which can be gotten with chicken), with your choice of filling, as well the Teriyaki sandwich (again, your choice of filling), as spicy as you request. Getting them with their thick cut fries (not to be mistaken for steak fries!), that only need a hint of salt for the full flavor to come out. The stir fry is another popular option - you choose the ingredients from their bar, and you pay by the weight - but after it's cooked. You can add white rice for a little extra, and you have the makings for a satisfying, yet healthy, lunch. My only complaint - it's not open for dinner!
