Beardsley Zoo, Bridgeport

one of the best place to vist if your in conneticut. This small but wonderful place to vist. full of cool animals like tigers, wolfs, monkeys and snakes aso much more. The zoo is clean and all of the animals look happy. All of the animals found in this zoo acept for the tigers are mostly from north and south America. if your just staying in conneticut or live there and want a wild experience then Beardsley zoo is a wonderful place to go.

The beardsley zoo is a wonderful little zoo thats great for kids to enjoy and be educated on animals. Staff is very helpful and kind. Parking may be a little hard on nice days. As for the review about the flies in the owl cage, who ever wrote that clearly must be uneducated... Owl's don't eat rainbows and butterflies they eat meat and that was the owl's diet that afternoon. Some people also seemed to be concerned with the animals always being asleep or under the shade on sunny days..but wouldn't you be in the shade on a hot day? Also, for those who have been bringing up the topic of the exhibit space and the size of the animals...The zoo is Accredited by the AZA meaning that they give the animals more room than what is "needed" by law. I'm sure the zoo would love to give the animals more room and give the visitors more variety and with better funding they will be. Overall the beardsley zoo is a great place be sure to visit their website (friend them on facebook or follow them on twitter ) for big events so you can join in on all the fun. If you can go to Enrichment day hands down the most fun you and your kids will have at a zoo!

This place looked a bit rundown and we'll I live in the Hartford area and so its a hour drive for me, I feel its definitely not worth it. I agree with the person who says the areas were unfit for these animals. The animals had a very small living space. There is very tall grass and weeds all over the cages. It makes it look like they have barely any room to move especially in the area where the boars were. Most of the animals are there by theirselves and look very bored. There is a humongous tree taking a huge space in the small rectangular condor cage. I passed by where the American Bison was and there was an owl cage with a tree stump and on the tree stump was a dead baby chick with flies all over it. I'm not kidding. You look at the small tanks were the turtles are in *which is so small the snapping turtle takes up only half the tank* and all the takes have green residue on the glass. The area were the otters are stinks and seamed dirty. In one of the turtle tanks looked like a dead *just born* baby rat in the tank. I'm not kidding I have the video tape of it. It was sad. I mean if I ever go to the zoo again I'll go to the Bronx Zoo in NY atleast I won't feel so bad. I mean there are a lot of animals but it's soo poorly maintained compared to other zoos I have been too. Probably this is just my experience but I will not be going out of my way to visit THIS zoo again.

Filthy bathrooms.Filthy animal areas.Animal areas miniscule...it was sad to see all these beautiful creatures confined to such small areas. Even the waterfountain was filthy. The "rainforest" area had a stench that could knock you out and there were way too many animals bunched up together in that one little area.A VERY depressing place.Would not recommend unless you enjoy watching animals suffer in cramped captivity.
