Grand Adventure Balloon Tours
Imagine literally rising with the sun on a stunningly calm mountain morning in a hot air balloon. The silence is astounding as you effortlessly drift over forests of aspens and pine, and spy upon herds of elk. Earth is caught in an endless awakening yawn. Grand Adventure Balloon Tours conducts such flights daily. Each flight, which lasts about an hour, ascends at dawn when weather conditions are optimum for ballooning. They all include a continental breakfast and a traditional champagne toast.
Nestled in a peaceful pocket of the rugged Rockies,we found Granby. Its a very laid back yet active area for skiers and sun worshipers alike. While totally unpretentious the town does have a pint sized library including internet on Zero St. At the end of the street an animal sanctuary for wild horses, dogs, strays, etc. is an interesting place to visit. Snow-capped Bryers Mt. in the distance is the focal point of the town which has many ecclectic stores, best chicken wings and comfy inns.Windy Gap is a nature preserve and ancient artifacts have been unearthed. Silver Creek is a trendy development and shuttle buses are available,in the lobby huge stuffed and mounted wildlife,ie grizzley, elk, caribou procide a nice welcoming touch to the clime.A well stocked ski shop, and an outdoor cafe serving hot chocolate as skiers zoom by are here also. Great Grandby is a true delight in an unsuspected place.
The Winter Park Fraser Valley is a beautiful place to fly in a balloon. It is probably one of the most beautiful places in the world. Views of the Continental Divide, Rocky Mountain National Park, and 13,000 ft mtns for 100 miles. Picking pine cones while watching wildlife below is amazing! Flights are weather permitting so try your 1st day. I have been with Grand Adventures more than once. What a way to start the day!!!!
For $225 a piece this was a great disappointment. We floated over the same dull field, back and forth and landed in the same place we took off from. The staff was very professional and friendly, but the ride was very boring. I contacted the company after returning and was told that was as good as a winter ride gets. I actually expected a partial refund. We asked a couple of the others on the trip what they thought and they said, "Well, we thought were going to actually go somewhere."
I would never recommend this trip to anyone! Hopefully, the summer rides are better.
