John May Museum Center
This museum is both creepy and fascinating. Display cases are jammed with over 7,000 invertebrates, making it one of the best collections of large tropical insects in the world. Stunningly colored Brazilian butterflies and Columbian beetles that are so large that when in flight can knock over a human, are just some of bug offerings. There is also a wing devoted to space exploration and contains amazing photos snapped from Voyager II.
The Bug museum is very interesting. One review said to plan a whole day there, though, and I think two hours would be plenty. We really enjoyed all of the insects and butterflies on display. The "space museum" is another story. It is really lame. A few old posters in a trailer do not a museum make.
This was terrible. The Space Museum is a bunch of rundown trailers, with nothing but old posters and even some star trek toys. This place was really a waste. The toilets didn't work well so you could only go in but couldn't flush the toilets. The bugs they talk about are interesting but they are well dated back to the 50's. The "movie" they showed about bugs reminded me of the stuff you see in the 60's. It really was awful. I wouldn't recommend this place. I know they had alot of bad reviews on this site before and now they have mysteriously disappeared and these really good reviews took their place. Don't go it is a waste of time and money. The trailers were run down and they really shouldn't let anyone in them, you really have to watch where you step because you will fall threw the floor.
There is so much to see here . you will be amazed. forget all the other attractions in town.plan at least a full day here. also , dont forget the space museum. It is one of the finest museums i have ever seen.
