Learn about geology and history on the Discovery Tour, or go back in time on the Lantern Tour, listening to tales from the past and using only lanterns for light. The physically challenging Explorers Trip is an adventure through undeveloped passageways and chambers. Tours range from 45 minutes to four hours. Check the website for more details.
My parents took us here when we were children. We took our children and now my children are taking their children (us too). It has changed a bit over time but still an incredible place. I hope I'm still around to take my great grandchildren.
I'd been to a few other caves when I was younger, but dont remember too much. I went to Cave of the Winds this spring with a few friends I graduated high school with and we had a blast! We weren't going to learn all about the science of caves or anything, we just came to have a good time. I recommend the lantern tour! It was so much fun! I learned a lot about the history of the cave, and had an awesome time! It was one of my favorite things in Manitou. I don't think its a tourist trap at all, just a good adventure! The silly ropes course is definately stupid though. Unless maybe your 8 years old.
