Possibly the nicest course in the SF Bay Area
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/18/04
As a 12 handicap, I feel qualified to assess courses fairly. I've played many courses in the Bay Area, public and private. Cinnabar's layout is unique in that it consists of (3) nine hole courses: The Mountain, The Lake, and The Canyon. These are not 3 executive or par 3 courses. These are 3 full length, challenging courses with four separate tees to choose from. Each are aptly named for their individual flavor. The surrounding hills and natural beauty of this course really sets it apart from others. For you big hitters, the Lake/Mountain combination is over 6800 yards with a 73.6 - 142 rating.
Depending on the day and/or tournament schedule, you would be assigned to play either Mountain/Canyon, Lake/Mountain, or Canyon/Lake. For whatever reason, it seems like the Lake/Mountain course is played most often. All three courses are meticulously well kept, from tee box to green. The staff has a very low turnover rate and tend to be very professional and friendly. We've all been to courses that had rude or snobbish staff.
Specifics: carts are included in all green fees. I choose to walk nearly every course I play, but Cinnabar is not conducive to walking. It is situated in some good sized hills. In terms of difficulty, I would rate this course on the upper scale. Many of the tee shots require a long carry to the fairway, anything short will end up in canyons, never to be found. I can't think of a single fairway which is flat and/or straight. Though most of them are wide enough to still be fun. They all offer spectacular views. The greens are very fast, well-kept, and quite challenging, but for the most part are very fair.
Cinnabar's a public course with prices in the upper end of the range. The weekend highest rate is $100. For you bargain hunters, Super Twilight's only $37.
I hope you get a chance to play this wonderful course. It is nothing less than absolutely spectacular for its views, condition, layout, and natural beauty. You can also check it out on the web www.cinnabarhills.com/
