San Luis Rey Downs Golf Course, Bonsall

I went in the fall and there were Sycamore leaves all over the fairways. You can hit the fairway and not find your ball. The course is below flood plain and grass does not grow well here. The surrounding area is beautiful and the bar is all wood and has a cabin feel.

Fairways were a bit thin, so, we needed to move our ball. But, beyond the thin fairways, the course played well. The dog legs were true dog legs where accurate tee shots were required to avoid being in the tree lined fairways. The par 3's were not give me's, all 175+ yards, which required a long iron or a rescue club. The greens were fabulous, and with true rolls. The bunkers were deep and demanding. Green Fees for seniors were $41.00 with cart. Overall, the course was quite scenic, and offered a demanding, but fair, round of golf. I would highly recommend SLRD.

Was there for a college golf tournament a few weeks ago in early February. Absolutely the worst course I've ever seen for a tournament at this level. The course needs to be elevated about 10 feet to get it above the flood plain, and then maybe they could establish some grass. Also, it is simply bizarre how they treated the bunkers. Some are dirt, some are sand, even around the same green!
