Flower Fields (The)
A 50-acre rainbow of blooming Ranunculus flowers thrill freeway passers. Because of the incredible flowering fields, Legoland chose to build near here. The season is short (approximately March through May) with the greatest display in early to mid-April at the Flower Field. Pathways take you up the gently sloping fields, where most people stand in silence, taking in the abundant flowers and gazing at the Carlsbad coastline. A large tent serves as the hospitality center gift shop offering a rich array of blooming plants to take home, souvenir cups, tote bags, clothing and packages of the Ranunculus corms to plant in your own garden.
It is a beautiful place, no doubt, but you can easily see it from either the ocean front road (looking up at the hill where the flower fields are and the windmill) or by being on top of the hill (near the Palisades resort next to LegoLand and looking down). I'd say to save the price of admission and just drive by it. And as for the restrooms - you could easily walk next door to the outlet mall and do some shopping too!
It's a huge flower field, but not many varieties (should check on their web first). Very poor restroom (unless you don't mind or not plan to use). My feeling about it is a flower farm opening to make more money on top of selling flowers and other stuff.
The flower fields are so beautiful and I love taking my family here too. It's also very centrally located, so you can also get some grocery or clothes shopping, or a bite to eat. It is a great place to go during the summer if you want some relax time alone or some fun with the family.
We drove up to Carlsbad from east county, (50 minute drive) because they said they were "IN BLOOM". Only 1 field was in bloom, "95% in bloom" was the quote. Fields bloom in order that they are planted.
2 Adults and a teenager, $27.00 pluss $12.00 for tractor ride to see the only field in bloom.(Much to long of a walk for most people).
Signs all over stated "We are in bloom". Not so, wait a couple of weeks!
The flower fields are nothing less than STUNNING!! The colors of the flowers on the fields are vibrant. The view from the top of the hill with the colors of the flowers and the ocean in the background is breathtaking. Spectacular!!
I visited the Carlsbad Flower Fields at Carlsbad, CA about a month ago. Although it is very beautiful to see all the brightly colored flowers, I just don't think it's worth thr 8.00 per adult admission charge (7.00 with AAA card). There was supposed to be some sort of "pea maze," but in its place was something else that was probably not worth the walk down the hill. And don't bother paying 3.00 for a hay ride pulled by a tractor when you can walk up the small hill yourself.
And, if you are a man, read this: I was looking for restrooms, and found them...I thought...I go see the restroom building entrance, one side (left side) says "Women," so of course I assumed then the other side (right side) must be "Men." No need then to look, as actually I was running late, so I briskly walk inside and something caught my attention...I see under one stall someone wearing black platform sandals with red-painted toes! What? I look around, and there are no urinals! I thought this was the Men's restroom, but as it turns it out, it was not!!!! The women's use both sides of the building! If you are a man, they have PORTABLES for you outside!!!!!!!!!!! How crappy is that? Don't pay 8.00 to use a portable restroom when women have their own clean restrooms, sucks big time!!!!! Needless to say, I got the hell out of that restroom and the flower fields altogether.
