Dixon Lake, Escondido

If you want to visit one of the best city parks in the country, then Dixon Lake City Park should top your list of things to do. The entire park is keenly well maintained. I've visited this place twice - all the way from NC, just to see the lake and do some fishing. The water is extremely clean. It has a plentiful harvest of freshwater clams...a sure sign of water purity. Every single one of the staff members are most helpful and friendly. There is even a campsite offering all of the neccessities of camping and several of the campsites offer breath-taking views for it sits on a mountainside. The numerous plant and animal life that can be found offer the naturalists a heaven vacation place. The Daley Ranch is next to Dixon and offers lots of hiking and biking trails through the avocado-covered mountains of Northern San Diego County. Here, wildlife is most plentiful and most beautiful. The plants are a trip in themselves with blooms popping out in late February. My most fascinating discovery of this area was the campground. It's awesome! At the lake, you can rent jon boats with electric motors, which is plenty ample to fish the entire lake. The "park squirrels and birds" will surround you if you offer them some popcorn from the concession stand. This would be a treat for the youngsters to enjoy doing, and would make for some good photos to bring back home as a reminder of your trip. The City Of Escondido operates both the Dixon Lake and Daley Ranch Parks, and may I say this city cuts no corners in taking care of their little hidden secret. The people of the community are very nice and friendly and freely offer any advice you may need or just a simple chat. This is one of the nicest city parks in America. I highly recommend it as your vacation destination in the future.
