Not as great as they claim
Sorry, San Diego Zoo is leaps and bonds behind the Singapore Zoo., On a scale of 1-10, it's about a 4 with Singapore a 10 (and Italy's a 1). My American children grew up visiting the Singapore's fabulous zoo and their spacious habitat friendly enclousres for each animal, riding elephants, feeding giraffe's, holding pythons and birds, seeing the night safarai's, riding horses, trams, boats, etc. We finally were able to visit the much acclaimed SD Zoo this month and my children and I were actually saddened to see the restricted, depressing way the animals were kept in their enclosures and their cage-crazy behaviors of walking patterns/OCB actions over and over again. (Like the polar bear who touches his nose to the back cage door grill, then walks backwards around a rock, then turns to the right and walks 10 steps and then repeats the pattern over and over again. The poor lion's enclosures is WAY too small and their habitats not always conducive of their natural habitats Everything looked very run down and old. This zoo's directors and the zoologists need to step up their game and take better care of those animals. The animals need better habitat enhancements to prevent boredom, larger spaces for the bigger animals and a mate for those poor single animals bored and all alone (like the white Middle Eastern fox in the children's petting area). Children's petting zoo was absolutely pitiful with just a few goats and 2 sheep to pet.. I could get more than that at the local farm. I am in my 40's and have hear raves about this zoo my whole life. My family and I were very disappointed.
