Oceanside Municipal Pier
Spanning 1,942 feet, Oceanside Municipal Pier is one of the most notable piers in the western United States. Not only is it the longest wooden pier along the West Coast, but this spot also holds the title as the longest over-water pier in Southern California. The pier was was first built in the 19th century, then restored in 1987. It now houses a restaurant and snack bar as well as a bait and tackle shop. For those who do not wish to walk the distance of the pier, a tram is available for the journey.
I have been to this beach and me, my husband and my children love it, I am half pacific islander and white and my husband is hispanic and african american. We look like a hispanic family. and yes this is towards the last review because it proves my point. When I come to this beach I feel like others look down on us like we dont belong. this makes me feel unwelcome and I feel like I am judged on the color of my skin here, I just got stationed here, me and my husband are in the service and our families have served and its sad that I even have to write such a comment but since were being honest it is just my opinion and how I feel. I am not from LA or any other place I am from San Diego and have lived throughout San Diego south and north but I have to say it has been the most uncomfortable here. I just wish people would be careful how they see people and take the time to se them from the inside and not judge by the color of there skin or where they come from. My husband is from LA not in a gang and is a wonderful father and well respected man.
My family and I thought the pier was a great place to spend a few hours or even all day. Great eating place at the end of the pier. Nice beaches and playground for the kids. Great shopping within walking distance. Visit this place!!!
The pier is a great place to enjoy the view of our coastline. Watching the fisherman and checking out what they caught is a good time. If your hungry check out Ruby's Diner at the end of the pier for the best over the water view burger you can buy.
Oceanside is one of California's few places where the entire family can do a list of things in one place: the kids can swim, the family can spend the day fishing off the pier, the options for food is endless!: American, Italian, French, Oriental--you name it, they have it. After your family has had fun, it's great to watch the sun set and enjoy the cool breezes. My family and I have returned every year for a relaxing get away.
I have been coming to the Oceanside pier, pretty much all my 50 years. My grandparents lived in Oceanside and we loved to comb the beach for shells in the early morning and later walk out on the pier. It is a wonderful pier, so far out there, awesome experience. Fun for all ages. If you get a chance, GO!
I enjoyed this pier. It's a little longer than the ones near me (Manhatten Beach Pier), but I was able to listen to a jazz concert (I was more intrested in listening to it for free than paying more money to see who's playing). The walk to the very end was enjoyable, but if you are out of shape (my dad had a hard time with the walk), then I would not suggest doing this activity. There's a resturant at the very end, Ruby's, which is like the Johnny Rocketts in the South Bay area of Los Angeles. Also, if you get motion sickness easily, than I probably would suggest not to eat dinner here, as the building tends to move ever so slightly (probably due to the under toe and how far you are from shore).
