This outdoor paradise is comprised of seven lakes, each numbered. While no swimming is allowed in the lakes, there are still a variety of options for outdoor fun. Lake Five allows recreational boating, but only rental rowboats, canoes or pedal boats are permitted. Catfish are prominent in Lake Two, while trout are the frequent catch at Lakes Three and Four (Lake Three also holds a fishing pier). Only campers may use Lakes Six and Seven, which hold largemouth bass as well as catfish. Fishing is only permitted from the shore as boats are not allowed on the fishing lakes.
Positives are that it is very quiet and like the gates for security - negatives are, too hot here, not like closer to the beach, dirt pads to put your rv and no shade as we were in the newer slots. Possibly the fall would be better. Did not catch one fish and one lake was totally dry but we did not find out until much later after we had spent a day fishing - fish lost oxygen and it was cleaned out. Good thing, other things to do are not to far. Shops close by for those things forgotten. Overall, stay was just mediocre at best - will not be staying there again. If you like the fresh ocean air or the bay air then Santee is not the place for you!
I was here back in the 80's. Santee Lakes has changed and only improved! It is such a clean, nice quiet lovely place to be when you want to just kick back. Just another hidden neighborhood jewell that the tourists miss out on. What can I say?
Great RV facilities. Many sites on the lake. Small lakes but well stocked. Good fishing for several species at different times of the year. Good facilities with restrooms located near the playgrounds and in the RV areas. Great birding area especially during the winter months. Plan on going back the end of march.
Great place to have a family picnic. A tranquil oasis conveintly nestled in Santee. Close to stores so you can easily fill your picnic basket.
Paddle boats give you the chance to check out the wildlife in the marshy islands.
Could use a playground for the little ones.
