San Dieguito Heritage Museum
With only a tiny, one-room display, this museum packs a multitude of local history into a small space. From military history (focusing primarily on World War II) to a surfing exhibit, the museum has a bit of history for everyone. Most of the historical displays include photographs and antique clothing. Books on local history topics are sold on the premises. Visits to the museum are free, yet donations are accepted.
I went here with my son's class to learn about the town's history and I was so taken by the charming staff, who have many of their own family's possessions on display here. The place is tiny, but it is stuffed with everything from Native American costumes to surfboards. There are a few things for sale, too, that are cool, like a couple of pictures of the town at the turn of the century. I highly recommend this place. You can see the whole thing in 45 minutes.
This delightful, homespun museum is full of many donations from the surrounding communities, is staffed by local families going back 5-6 generations. It has a quality of "grannie's attic, holds classes for local grade schools, and is actually found at 561 VULCAN Ave. in Encinitas, CA
The museum is now located at 450 Quail Gardens Dr. Encinitas, CA
It is NOT a part of the reknown Encinitas Quail Gardens, which is on the same road.
The museum is just north of the gardens.
