Rockin' Baja Lobster--Old Town
A genuine Spanish-era adobe ranchero house is home to this popular restaurant in Old Town, where San Diego began. Inside the restaurant, soft adobe-colored walls are picked out with bright murals in a patio atmosphere complete with a waterfall. Lobster tops the menu, prepared Puerto Nuevo style with a sprinkle of spices. Try Lobster Melts or Lobster Tacos. Happy Hour in the Cantina runs 3pm-7pm Monday-Friday and offers discounted appetizers and drink specials.
We enjoyed the food. Good quality and flavor, fun experience for the kids. Bucket servings were more than large enough. Experience was good but could have been better. Server was slow and lost interest as soon as we got our food. Sat at the table for a long time with dirty dishes and no check. Could have been just a bad waiter and may not reflect the entire place. Nice change of pace from the other 20 Mexican restaurants in SD Old Town.
We met our family at Baja Lobster in Old Town, San Diego. It was our first time there, my niece suggested it and we loved it.
We hope to visit it again someday, soon.
Thank you for your great service, great food and a great time.
We love this place, we are originally from San Diego and miss being able to go whenever we feel like it. The Chile Honey butter is amazing!!! Never had a problem with service or food.....the people who call it a tourist trap....it's in one of the biggest tourist parts of San Diego...if you dont want to go to a tourist place....dont.
Over all we love it!
Excellent service and food! Great selection of seafood cooked in the Puerto Nuevo style (flash fried in it's shell and seasoned with Mexican spices). Also great selection of steak, chicken, ribs, fajitas, etc!
We went to the Gaslamp District location. Service was incredibly slow and we had to eat in the bar. The guacamole was good. I'll give them that. However the chipotle chicken fingers were overly sweet and not particularly spicy. The portion size for the lobster tacos, which came with rice and beans, was huge (much too large for a lunch portion, particularly after appetizers). The veggies and spicy cream sauce were fine, but the lobster itself was a greasy fried mess. They need to make it clearer on their menu that the lobster is fried - or I wouldn't have ordered it. Why would you destroy a delicate piece of shellfish like that? What'd it do to you?
Overall, between the slow service, lack of air conditioning (I guess it was a heat emergency that day too), underwhelming food and tourist trap ambiance, we will not go back there next year for our annual visit - nor can we in good conscience recommend it to others.
My husband and I always make a point to go to Baja Lobster no matter how far we have to go. The Ambiance is awesome!! Relaxed and casual. My favorite is the Baja BIG Bucket. If you love great food and no rules, you must go.
Wonderful, Wonderful! The food, atmosphere, and service was all wonderful. Eric, and Heidi were our servers and boy did they do an excellent job keeping our drinks full and making sure everything tasted great and making sure we had enough napkins! On my next trip to San Diego this will definately be a must for me and my family.
Wonderful place in the Old Town. Great atmosphere. Thoroughly enjoyed the Baja Bucket - the lobster tails, the shrimp were outstanding, but even more amazing was the steak in the bucket. Also good large sized Margheritas, and large helpings of rice refills. Not sure when we return, but Rockin' Baja will definitely be on the agenda.
