This restaurant's old-fashioned interior is comforting and cozy, and the food on the extensive menu is served any time. House specialties include Chicken Pot Pie and Penne Pasta Bolognese. There is an array of steaks, chicken dishes, pork and ham, as well as a handful of basic seafood dishes. Almost three-dozen sandwiches keep the lunch crowd happy, so the 'Verbal Abuse of Staff' charge is never applied. There is a full bar with beer, wine and cocktails, plus a dance floor.
The manager came over to my table and with a loud nasty tone told me my dog was not allowed in there. I replied he is a service dog. He is wearing his vest.
Again with a loud nasty tone, she asked "what kind of service dog is he?
That line of questioning is against the law!!!! Federal law!!
The fool who wrote about a mushroom burger being nearly devoid of mushrooms is a crybaby who I wouldn't trust with any opinion. Billy Reed's (where we've been going for nearly 20 years) offers excellent services and a large menu of outstanding items--one of which is their classic cream of chicken soup. It's fantastic. The roast turkey dinner (freshly roasted turkey) with dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy and vegetables is terrific--and nearly too much for one sitting. The Caesar salad is excellent too. Same for the baked potato with broccoli and other delights. I have NEVER had a bad experience at Billy Reed's--a beautiful Victorian oversized restaurant that delivers on its promises time after time. I've had the huge chicken pie, the ground round dinner, the chicken dinner, seafood and just about everything else you could think of and have never been disappointed.
The fish pond in front had beautiful fish and turtles. The food really went down hill, I had a mushroom hamburger that come with only a few mushrooms, it was worst then fast foodn need I say more ! Pretty bad. The prices have gone up and I was still hungry after I got the expensive bill. Never again.
The food was OK, but not worth the wait -- it took 2 hours to serve 12. With 12 people, they found it impossible to deliver all food hot and without considerble mistakes. Examples: room temp ground chuck, warm but not hot filet mignon (that was relatively tasteless and without the advertised bacon-wrap to add flavor), no garlic bread (2 requests), no steak sauce (2 requests), clam chowder that was worse than that available in a can, and numerous other servings that were cold or luke warm. To top it all off -- they automatically added a 17% tip -- I refused and they returned my tip.
If you must go -- go in parties of two and don't plan on good service or hot food.
If you want to get a nasty, evil stare from a mexican busboy because you merely complain that your cream of Chicken soup is cold, then go to Billy Reeds in Palm springs, California! My Waiter was Great!...I'll Identify him only as, "T". However, his helper, busboy in which I will I dentify as, "G" was very rude and should not be in the food service buisness if hedoes not like to work in it. Overall, Billy Reeds is my favorite in Palm Springs. Good Food & reasonable prices. There is always room for improvement and in my case, I strongly suggest to the management of Billys to hire people who speak & understand the english language, well! There is nothing worse than somebody trying to take an order when they do not understand what the customer is saying. Also, Billy Reeds has to lose the smarty pants mexican busboy known as "G"...thank you!
We came across Billy Reed's on a Saturday night only to discover a large wooden dance floor and ballroom dancing in full swing to a great selection of CD's. The dance area is in a sizable ballroom just inside to the right of the resturant entry. For a small cover charge and with reasonablly priced coctails, you can have a wonderful dinner-dance evening.
I have been vacationing in the desert now for almost 15 yrs. and Billy Reed's has always been a constant during our trip. We only go for breakfast because we love it so much. Haven't had a bad meal there yet! The food and the atmosphere are one of a kind!
I just have to tell you - the Boston Creme Pie/Cake is to die for. If you miss having dessert, you must go back and ENJOY!!! The fudge sauce is mouthwatering.
We have moved from the desert, but everytime we go to Southern California, we make sure we get dessert from Billy Reed's! If we can't make it to the restaurant, we send someone to bring the restaurant to us!! And it is always Boston Creme Pie/Cake! Indulge youself...you are worth it!
