The Fabulous Palm Springs Follies
This spirited, well-produced show is held in the landmark Plaza Theatre, a 1930s movie palace now enjoying a second run as the permanent home of the annual Follies. The Follies performers are between the ages of 58 and 87 years old. Each season the line-up includes many famous actresses, singers and dancers who have retired to Hollywood's "desert suburb," Palm Springs. Tickets range from USD39-85 for 1:30pm matinee performances, and from USD43-89 for the 7pm evening show. The Follies run from early November to late May.
We couldn't wait to see this show featuring elderly performers in an historic theatre in Palm Springs. We took and guest and we were all shocked at how incredibly homophobic this show was...The emcee went on and on about gay people, all the while with the attitude that being gay is a bad thing and calling someone gay is the worst thing you could say about them. The emcee also didn't go by and script it seemed and didn't know when to shut up by a long shot. He went on and on, and it was obvious that the audience was uncomfortable with his continuous insulting "comedy." I demanded a complete refund and received it, as I would encourage you to do if you found this review AFTER you had already seen the terrible show. That this show is allowed to run in Palm Springs should be an embarrassment to the city and to all the gay people living in the city. Sad and pathetic. And the music was lip-synced and recorded. Terrible show.
Great humor combined with a dazzling show. I can't wait to go back to see the amazing long legged lovelies! If you are ever in the palm springs area you have to check out this show, be sure to reserve tickets in advanced on their website because they are usually sold out in advanced!
