Chris' Fishing Trips & Whale Watching, Monterey

I took my Dad on a fishing charter for his birthday. The owner was very nice and accommodating. The crew was really helpful and fun. We saw whales, dolphins and sea lions. Great price and had so much fish to take home. Also did the crab fishing. Got a generous amount of crab and when we had a crab dinner back home, it was a hit. This was NOT a good experience. We went whale watching on May 4th, 2010. It was our first anniversary so we thought it'd be a good way to start off the day. The staff told us we were guaranteed to see whales. It was windy and chilly...and within 30 minutes into the trip a large handful of people were very sea sick, including me. I've never been so sick in my life. My husband wasn't sick, so he was able to "watch" for whales - I didn't care about anything besides getting off the boat. He said they saw the back of one whale as he dove under and swam away. So, without any warning from the crew about the conidtion of the water, chance of sea sickness, and not supplying any water or paper towels for the sick people - it was hell for 4 hours. The crew didn't seem to care either way - customer service was horrible. It wasn't real expensive, but it was $30 to be sicker than sick for 4 hours and not even see any whales to make it worth while. Great way to spend our anniversary. I do NOT reccomend this company for whale watching in Monterey.

The owner of this company should be arrested for the scam that it's running. My family and I had the scariest and worst experience of our lives going on this trip. The owner knew that the waters was rough when he told us that the waters might be a little rough but was still calling out for customers, like a pimp, in front of his store. The waves were so big I thought the boat was going to capsize. Everybody in the boat got so sick just 30 minutes into the trip that everybody was vomiting by then. The lone crew did not care and his smoking was making me more sick. He was even berating people for vomiting on the boat and not over board. You feel so helpless because pleads to go back were ignored when there was still two more hours of sheer torture to endure. There was definitely no whales and only got to see a few dolphins but people were too sick to care. This was despite assurances by the owner of whales and "thousands" of dolphins. This company is the cheapest because it has the worst boat and staff.

You definately do not want to go on this kind of trip on a windy day. It made me very sick and it was the worst time I had in my life. We had the whole family on the boat and none of us enjoyed any part of the trip.

I really enjoyed whale watching. I went in February and we saw several gray whales migrating. It didn't cost that much, and it was long, but if you have the time, go. If you're only in the area for a short time, I would recommend going to the aquarium and other attractions first, but i live here so I wanted to go. We also saw a lot of dolphins. it was a great experience!

The day we went out was the last week in June 2007.It was very windy so the wave were pretty big. One hour into it I was never so motion sick in my life I thought I was going to die. the worst part was I still had about 2 hours to go . I and a couple other women were so busy puking that we didnt care if we ever saw a whale.They had no water on the boat what so ever. So just be prepared take a lot of dramamine and bring waterso you can at least rinse your mouth.They seemed like no big deal about getting sick they told me to just hang over the side a Adventure I will never forget.

Likes: - we did see some whales and skipper/captain made efforts to come close to any activity in water - be prepared to see a lot of dolphins Dislikes: - The boat was an old one and very dirty from inside - The boat skipper was unfriendly and at times rude to passengers I would suggest looking out for other whale watching tour operators before you decide for this one

I didn't think I would have fun going whale watching, but I was proven wrong. The crew was knowledgeble and pleasant. We saw whales and dolphins. Got great pics. There were plenty of families with kids having a good time too.
