What started out as a natural arroyo filled with water from a stream is now a notable expansive park and famous neighborhood. Formerly known as Elendale, Echo Park consists of 26 acres of greenery and a beautiful lake. Based on a design by Joseph Henry Tomlinson, the park is beautifully conceptualized. Tours of the park are available, which includes the other neighborhood landmarks like the historic Baxter Steps and the Echo Park boathouse. Festivals and other cultural activities too are held in this neighborhood and park with great furor and enthusiasm.
I love to go jogging on the path around the lake or just watch the people who are out for their evening stroll around the lake. In the summer, there are paddle boats to rent during the day on the weekends. There are also a lot of great festivals every year - the Lotus Festival being one, with food and entertainment.
Echo park is an example of the diversity present in California. I grew up in Echo Park, but it is now a much different place. Gentrification has taken its toll on Echo Park. As white people move in, the prices of housing has skyrocketted. Many of the original inhabitants who worked had to remake Echo Park, from the problems it faced in the 80's, have been forced to leave. Still, Echo Park has great food, places to chill, drink, dance, and hang out with the family.
I'm sooooo glad that Echo Park has cleanned up since I grew up there in the 80's and 90's. Now as an adult, I return to Echo Park and am filled with great pride and nostalgia for a childhood long gone but always remembered. Thank you whom ever put this picture up on the internet. I LOVE LA!!!
