Castaic Lake Fall Visit
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/15/04
Castaic was the destination of a family trip from over 2000 miles away and it was well worth it. The weather for early October was perfect, and despite some very rude Germans, this was the best camping ground we saw for the whole trip. Reserve early though. Most sites in the "A" or "B" section are on the grass, but "C" is entirely in the dirt/sand. Avoid at all costs. Hiking around the lake was wonderful and rewarding. Herons, Crows, Peregrines (?) Redtails, Coopers Hawks, and a pair of immature Bald Eagles were seen. But no sign of rattle snakes or the mountain lion reported to be in the area.
