Description

This is a fun nine-hole course just a few miles from the famous Venice Beach. Since undergoing renovation, the course has featured significant improvements with multiple greens on each hole. This feature allows one green to recover while another is being used, assuring that each hole will have a green in good condition. That said, this is an excellent place to brush up on your short game. Rental clubs are available here. Call for tee timings and other details.

I will never go back!!!!
By Team Fox, 7/25/08
While I was thrilled to find a new course on the westside, I was immediately disappointed with my experience at Penmar Golf Course. I made a tee time for 5:20pm on a Thursday. After driving from El Segundo, I arrived at the pro shop at 5:07 (according to my cell phone), and my tee time was given TO A WALK-IN standing in line in front of me. The pro shop attendant proceeded to tell me that all golfers must arrive 15 minutes prior to their tee-off time; and that I would have at least a 45 minute wait before I could be given a starting number. If a course is going to be so strict with their check-in policy-THEY SHOULD HAVE THE COURTESY AND AWARENESS TO TELL CALLERS THIS WHEN THEY MAKE A TEE TIME. I can understand a busy course needs to keep waiting players to a minimum, but when I arrive only a couple minutes late and have my tee time given to a walk-in who arrived 30 seconds prior to me, I simply cannot understand the logic. The sour attitudes of the obviously inept employees did not help me to understand the situation with more patience. The one positive part of my experience is that I was able to see the very flat and amateur layout of the course BEFORE I had given them my green fees. I will never give Penmar Golf Course any of my business in the future, and will urge my friends and colleagues to do the same.

Too many players on the course
By wildman, 11/18/05
I found Penmar to be one of the nicest public 9 hole courses that I have ever played. You can even air out your driver a few times on this beautiful course. It remains very well maintained and the fairways are carpet like! The greens seem to be well maintained also. The beauty of the place is that there are no electric or gas carts (it is a strictly walking only course) on the course to trample down the grass which allows the natural grass to really grow to its full potential. I also found that the people I would get paired up with were pretty cool and friendly too. The only REAL bummer is that they are using a (5) "fivesome" rule which I think is a major major drawback to the amount of time that you are out on the course. C'mon Penmar course management! Get your act together and just put out foursomes. Like a REAL golf course. For cryin out loud! I wouldn't care if you even charged us more! At most, this place should play out around an hour and forty five minutes. With the fivesome rule they are using, you are lucky if you can play the course in 2 and a half hours. Of the 6 times I have played there, it has taken anywhere from 2 hours 15 minutes, to 2 hours and 50 minutes. Most of the time you are waiting around to actually strike your ball. Ouch.....That'll put a damper on your rythym.
