Santa Ana Zoo
This small zoo has a lot to offer its visitors. There is a recreation of an Amazon rainforest that will awe and inspire both young and old alike. In the Children's Zoo youngsters can pet everything from a sheep to pot-bellied pigs. The Zoofari Express train offers a few thrills. Monkey Row is home to all kinds of primates, from lemurs to apes to Dusky Titi monkeys. The Australian Yard features wallabies and emus while the Endangered Species area features bald eagles and Diana Guenon monkeys. There is something to delight and educate just about anybody with a sense of curiosity about the wonderful world of animals.
Many moons ago, this place was a sad, forgotten wasteland. Then suddenly, it was an oasis right in the middle of the city! There is a big aviary where you can sit and ponder life while surrounded by scarlet ibises (big red birds) and water life, and you are in a jungle. Then you can ponder life some more when you go to what we call "Gilligan's hut", where there is a waterfall and great view of the capabara, ducks, swans and monkeys. It is cool and makes you feel like you went on a trip. And little ones can run around without getting hurt-- and you know how hard it is to find a place like that, with boundaries (they really run fast!) LOVE it, LOVE it, LOVE it. We call the bald eagle "The General" and he loves it when you sing patriotic songs to him!
We hope it stays our little secret but it's ok if you go and keep the General company on days when we can't go...!!
This is an awesome little Zoo. The admission is very low, and if you live in Orange County it is a great place to visit. You can enjoy the Zoo, and not have to spend a lot of money or the entire day. The gift shop is great too, you can pick out something nice at a great price. It has a lot of South American species, rare breed domestic animals, and even endangered species. My teenager and I visit all the time and play "peek-a-boo" with the little monkeys!
Santa Ana Zoo and gift shop met my expectations.
My children and I have visited the San Diego, San Francisco and Living Desert zoos; so when I visited the S.A. zoo, I compared the setting, naturalistic atmosphere, customer service and prices at the gift shop, attendant willingness to answer our questions while feeding the animals and the friendliness towards my kids while showing the animals in their shows.
S.A. zoo met my expectations. So I joined the Yearly Family Club and enjoy its offering discounts as I continue to visit other zoos.
The food inside is disgusting. I went with my 3 year old boy and ordered us hamburgers for lunch. The lady in the kitchen was sneezing and wiping her nose with her sleeves while at the same time making our food. She did not have gloves to get the money and then cook, she did it all at once. The zoo has very few animals and there is hardly anything worth looking at. I traveled all the way from New Jersey and have gone home with an awful memory.
