The largest home ever built in Beverly Hills is the Greystone Mansion, a 55-room English Tudor Mansion constructed by Edward L. Doheny in 1928. A gift to his son, it was built for more than $50 million dollars, and includes a 16-acre garden. The grounds have been used as a public park, and the home itself for varying purposes, most recently for the activities of the American Film Institute. Dozens of films have been shot here, including The Loved One, The Bodyguard, The Witches of Eastwick, and Death Becomes Her. The interior of the mansion is closed to the public, but the exterior and surrounding park is completely open for visitors. Admission is free and complimentary parking is available within the gates. Timings are seasonal so call ahead.

Beautiful Place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/21/08
I was there on January 12, 2008. It is a beautiful place. The gardens were so nice. The next time I go back I plan to take picnic lunch. I didn't like the fact that you couldn't go into the house. I believe that this would have made the trip to the estate so much better. I also think there needs to be more info. about the house. Thanks for a great trip to LA. Karen and Carl Henry

Awesome mansion viewing!
By Office Fanatic, 01/13/08
This massive mansion is a thrill to tour, which I have done three times on different occasions. It's great fun to imagine living in such grandeur and explore the extensive floors.

Amazing

It was awsome. I am going back in November when they are going to open the Mansion for the public to walk though. I can't wait.

Absolutely Outstanding
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/11/07
I fell in love with this place when I was merely 14 (1985) and found it by virtue of an older cousin. On one trip I even found a slightly open door and walked the entire mansion before someone seeing me and escorting me out. Shhhhhh. Don't tell. It's phenomenal. I never feel as truly tranquil anywhere as I did at the top of this particular hill overlooking LA. It's so quiet and serene that you can't even fathom that you're in the middle of a major metropolitan city. And the trees are humongous and smell heavenly. The grandeur of this long-ago lifestyle is evident as you look through the windows and spy a bit of timeless wealth. It is sad to me, though, that there aren't tours of the inside because the interior of the home is so much more magnificent than the outside- but most people will never know it. They really should open it up on Saturdays and let people see the inner beauty of the mansion. In any case, you won't find this address on the "maps to the stars" but you also won't regret going to the grounds if you do. And then tell others about it- it's a very well-kept secret and I think more people should partake of its beauty.

Childhood Memories
By Eeedee, 01/04/06
I grew up having famliy picnics at teh mansion. At that time all the doors were locked, but the waterfalls and ponds were all in working condiction. The grounds are beautiful.. I even appreciated them as a child! We slid down the huge hills as kids..it's a lost treasure, that I rarely tell people about. Selfish I guess...best kept secret! Out of towners woudl enhoy, and locals should should enjoy it while they still can.

Stumbled across Greystone Mansion - Glad We Did!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/11/04
"Take a few minutes to see how the 'other half' lives." The 80- year old mansion is very well maintained; annual city events take place inside. Though not open to the public, kindly security guards allowed us to peak in the accessible windows as they told us the lenghty list of movies filmed therein. The grounds are beautifully groomed, the city overlook exceptional. It was worth our time for a leg-stretch, and we certainly understood why many couples choose this as a wedding site.
