Taste of Newport
Yet another good reason to cruise down Highway to the Newport Beach area, this celebration of food takes place annually at Fashion Island. Nearly 40 of Orange County's best restaurants will be present to offer cuisine to tens of thousands of eager mouths. Also on hand will be plenty of live entertainment included in the ticket price.
Wow - I read a lot of the reviews below and was pretty shocked. I'm thinking none of you have visited Sabatino's booth at the Taste of Newport. Sabatino's has the most AWESOME homemade Italian Sausage with Imported cheese that is cooked over mesquite and the sandwiches are very generous!!!! Yum Yum!!
This is our 4th time to attend the Tof NP... we always have a lot of fun eating, drinking and listening/dancing to the live bands. This year we purchased VIP tickets for $125 pp to see Sugar Ray in concert and wanted have seats to relax in. Last year we saw UB40 and danced the entire time, it was so much fun. This year, after only a few hours of minimal food and drinks waiting for Sugar Ray to start, I felt very sick, had to leave the concert, had severe vomitting and have no memory of the last few hours of that night. My friend got very sick that night as well, about an hour after I did. And for those of you who think we had too much to drink, believe me, this does not happen to us "seasoned" wine drinkers after 3 small plastic glasses of chardonnay, with food, NO WAY! We only saw Sugar Ray perform maybe 2 songs and had to leave, we're so bummed.
We are both very concerned someone put something in our drinks or food. Did anyone else get USUALLY sick?
I attended this event for the first time this summer. Along with experiencing the inflated admission price and the miniscule food portions the vendors were giving out, I was told upon purchasing my food/drink cards that I would be reimbursed any unused portion on the cards upon leaving. FAT CHANCE. At the end of the evening, the woman at the card booth told me they had already turned in the money and to try another booth. There, was was told the same but all I had to do was take my cards to the Newport Beach City Of Commerce and they'd reimburse me. YEAH, RIGHT. I called them the next day to get directions and was told that I would NOT get reimbursed and they didn't know why I would have been told that (like I was making it up). I got nowhere with them so I guess the joke was on me. Needless to say, I will not be attending this event in the future.
Everthing is deep fried, most of them is cold and sougy. Bad food. OC Fair food is much better than this. And Way too expensive. Its for chamber of commerce to make money, not newport local restaurant..BAD EXPERIENCE.
I used to BELIEVE IN yahoo review, but this time, there is great discount and bad experience. This " Taste of new port" food is bad, way too expensive. It is more like meat lucker than actully have good food. Those who gave 5 star rating, Do you guys actually there in person?? Or you are the sponser of the event?? BIG QUESTION MARK!!
I dont know who is the " yahoo contributor" who wrote the previous review. Yes Fashion Island is a great outdoor mall. Yes it is always nice to have outdoor event. Yes it is great outdoor atomsphere. But I have doubts: there is admission fee $25. at the door. I HAVE TO purchased e-card aka cash card to buy food and drinks which is understandable. But when it is come to 5 bucks for a bite size salad, sandwich, burger, sausage, desert.
And I swear to you, I dont taste the quality of the food AT ALL. and my neighbors who went with me, they are all pissed too. For this kind of pricing, we are SO NOT GOING AGAIN EVER.
$25 admission fee at the door. $40 minimun cash card in order to purchase food and drink. Thats fine too. But, $7 for a tiny bite sandwich!?$5 for a chocolate trial!?$8 for a mini plastic glass of shimp salad!? We can totally get the point now " TASTE" of newport, and we SO get the point not to try any of the restaurants because it is just taste bad even with the bite size. BTW, a glass of wine cost $15. yea! what a ripe off.
this is the first time we wondering who wrote the previous review. was it someone from the chamber of commerce of NB? or the restaurant sponsers! we had chances to attend few different event by different cities.
The last one we attended was taste of Yorba Linda and it was a postive and tasteful experience. So naturally we believe that Taste of NB can only be better. First my fiance checked the website, everyone seems to be happy in the picture and 75000 people will attend this event and Fashion Island is a fablous place. So we are all excited. The admission fee is $25, we thought that was a good price for the chance to taste what the NB high end restaurants have to offer. Parking is easy. Walking to the gate is exciting. Right after we paid $25 per person for the admission, we learnt that we have to pay minimun $40 ( e-card) to purchase the food and drink.
We decided to give it a try to make best of it out of the $40 cash card. 20 min later, we found out we just walk through the whole taste of NB. Very few restaurant attend this event, but each of them has a big tent. Average price for each restaurant is about $4~$8 for A BITY TINY food. After we burned through our 40 dollars cash card, we are still hungry and we still havent have any drink. The quality of the food is absolutly horrible. French fries from Ruby's was soggy. Creme Bulee from 5 Crown was like milk shake under candy glaze. Crunchy roll from San Shi Go/345 japanese restaurant was missing shrimp tempura, and taste like from something from Supermarket 5 oclock sale. Crab Bistro Parfait from Back Bay Bistro: 2 bite size of crab salad served on mini toast. 7 dollars. We dont what to do with it after one bite, it cost 6 dollars. Over all, this is by far the worst experience we ever had.
We wish someone can read this review before they go to this event. We wish we can spend our $90 in any other restaurant this evening. And we are still fxxking hungry :(
The price is way too expensive and the portion is way too small. And all the restaurant didnt even try to present their best dish in their restaurant WHICH DEFEAT THE WHOLE PURPOSE OF TASTE OF NB!!!
