Mountain High Resort
Billed as the most accessible skiing area in Southern California, it is 85 minutes from L.A. The total vertical drop of the runs is 1,600 feet, distributed well between skill levels. When you want to spend your leisure doing adventurous things that would provide you with an extra edge over anything sporty, is when you come to Mountain High Resort. This winter sports club offers lessons to adults and children, in case you are naive in skiing and trekking. Do come here for a very bright experience. Admission costs vary; check website or call 888 754 7878 for details.
I cannot recommend this resort at all, it is quite easily the worst ski resort in the SoCal area. The only reason it gets crowded is because it is full of kids who borrow their parents' truck and drive just over an hour to get here. The resort only cares about money. They haven't got the guts to sort out the nasty snowboarders who think they own the resort. Skiiers are very unwelcome here and it is not unknown for snowboarders to physically attack them. Skiiers will get beaten up and have snowballs thrown at them. The resort is full of people who don't bother with lessons as they are taught by friends with the result that it becomes dangerous. Nobody cares about safety and the number of injuries is high. Seeing Ski Patrol haul badly injured people away is very common here. Avoid Mountain High completely and go to Big Bear or Snow Summit.
There was no sign, no announcement, no one told "people who didn't purchase an adventure ticket who will get traffic ticket or towed" on the street. We were first time visitor, and all parking area were packed. There was no sign, no ticket, where to call... employees worked at there didn't even know the information, no help at all.People who purchased ticket are able to park there on streets means there's no need to towed our car to 80 miles away from ski resort, and charge $550 for tow and $180 for broken taxi which got all the lights on as an engine, brake,ABS lights. can you imagine you lost vehicle at middle of the mountain, cold, and dark. all the people who got towed are first visitors. NO SIGN, NO ANNOUNCEMENT for this BS,They will lose business.
The lift tickets can be sold out before you arrive.
I suggest you sign up to their forum and review their members' criticisms which ranged from defective lift gates to gripes about skiers using 'their' mountain.
Snowboarding and skiing at this place was an overall pleasant experience. I would recommend people to plan ahead and book rooms at one of the local ones like Mountain View Motel. The conditions when I went were great and its even better during the weekdays when everyone is away. The weekends are busy as usual but if thats the only way to come up here, come bright and early around 7am to find parking. The drive up here is very easy and not too hard to find. The tubing park at north resort is in its first year so call ahead to see if its open. The different terrain and ability to go from moderate to advance courses at this place is one of the things that keep me from coming back. Even for beginner's, this place is awesome to learn at since they have instructors who make the book on learning to ski/snowboard teaching. As for prices, weekends are at $58 or $55 with express pass but for even cheaper deals, you can visit your local ralph's and pick one up for $43 dollars. For even great deals, check out the motel called Mountain View with their room packages that start at $75 per person and that includes your own room. Mountain High's website has a wealth of information so plan ahead, find a place to sleep, and find a place to eat! I spent $200 for the room and tickets and $45 for the food for two people. It was a great time at Mt. High and I will return.
