This popular course sees quite a bit of backup for tee times, but its natural beauty and varied holes are well worth the wait. The long fairways are lined with oak trees and the San Gabriel Mountains are visible. Those attractive trees can cause trouble when it comes to drives, as well as the numerous sand bunkers when approaching the greens. Unlike many of the Southern California courses with views of the mountains, this one is far enough away from the hills to provide a smooth walking game.

2 reviews for Santa Anita Golf Course
A great course
By Sam, 09/27/05
It's my home golf course, so I'd better like it. But it's a great course, picturesque, hilly. It can be forgiving on certain fairways. A good experience for an intermediate golfer like me. It can get crowded and play slow on weekends. I suppose that sounds like most golf courses. I can't think of any water that comes into play on this course. There's a fairway bunker on 18 that I've hit into, though...

Classic LA County Course
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/03/05
Santa Anita is a L.A. County Classic. It was built in the 1930s as a WPA project utilizing WWI surplus equipment to contour the landscape. Most holes provide the players with options. The fairways are wide, but placing your drives in correct location can be the difference from a birdie opprotunity to struggling for bogey. The 16th fairway is the home strench of a 19th century race track that pre-dated nearby Santa Anita. In the Winter there are great views of a snow covered Mount Baldy. The course is crowded due to its location and reasonable price. You can hear your ball rolling on the greens over the bermuda grass. Any golfer interested in history should play here.
