Korean Bell of Friendship
This 17-ton gift serves as a great symbol of close ties between the United States and Korea. It was given to the U.S. by Korea in 1976 as a symbol of friendship. Meant to celebrate the bicentennial of the U.S, the bell also serves to honor the veterans of the Korean War. The huge bell and the pagoda-like structure which supports it are located within the Angels Gate Park and are situated atop a hill overlooking the Port of Los Angeles and the Pacific Ocean.
Funny this little known place that is a symbol of friendship is built on top of what used to be a fort that would have protected LA with Super Cannons during WWII. Its pretty cool to check this place out for a awesome view of Santa Catalina Island, Ocean and Ports. The bell is also in walking distance from Fort to check out the canons, control center and some tunnels. This is a little fact there are tunnels all over the Peninsula that were once used during WWII and there were once Super Cannons all over the peninsula that were able to hit there targets on the other Side of the Island all that exist are the stands where the canons used to be.
Every year on New Year's Eve, we go to the Korean Bell. It's very festive & fun, the great bell rings in the New Year, the Korean media is there, & a lot of locals. A nice way to celebrate the New Year!
