Olvera Street

Description

Years ago, one of the summer rituals for L.A. children was a new pair of huaraches from Olvera Street and maybe some Mexican jumping beans. Nowadays those rituals are a year-round treat on this cobblestone street, which is a block-long cornucopia of traditional clothing and accessories, Mexican art, giftware, leather goods, novelties and restaurants. There is also a Visitors Center where tourists can appreciate the complimentary screening of a film which depicts early life in Los Angeles. Olvera Street was created in the '30s and comprises the area known as the El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historic Monument, which is the site of the city's beginnings. Free tours are given to the public by the Las Angelinas, a non-profit organization.

Do you like color?
By ,
I enjoyed the variety of colors, a splash of every hue, shade, and brillance. The other combinations are the sounds of Latino music, wind chimes, and the friendly conversation around every corner. Have a wonderful taste of lod Califas.

come and join is for fun.

What I really like is the little stores in the middle you really feel like your in mexico then the smells of the food as you walk down the isle and the music you here there brings back memories from the past that you can once more re-live while your there. This will also be a good place to show your children how Mexico kind of looks. And you could show them what kind of toys children play with and what kind of clothing other people wear. also during December they have many festivities like the Virgen De Gualalupe conmemoration, the "posadas" and Nacimento. And live music.all year around you will see something different, fun and exciting.

A little piece of Mexico
By ,
Awesome mexican atmosphere that makes any native feel like he/she is back home again! The food, music, people, and even the donkey to take a picture on make any person feel like they're right back in the rancho.

GOOD MEXICO FLAVOR BUT NOT AUTHENTIC FOOD
By ,
I Liked the mexican ambiance of the whole place and there were alot of interesting tourist souvenirs to buy but the food at the variuos restaurants did not taste too good. It was not really authentic mexican food. I didn't really like it.

heritage

I love olvera street. I went there in grade school on a field trip. It was one of the best field trips ive ever been on because it was fun and informative at the same time. When i visited Mexico last summer, i found that olvera street is very much like what the culture is like in the Americanized part of Mexico.

Could Be Better
By ,
I would like Olvera Street so much more if they didn't have so many tourist shops. & the food is really over-priced. I wish they had more exhibits/art.
