You must be a local resident to get on the lake, but non-residents are allowed to walk around the lake anytime. The lake is manmade, but looks as beautiful as any natural body of water. Members enjoy sports like sailing, kayaking, and sunbathing on the 3.8 miles of sandy shoreline. There are frequent summer concerts offered here. The Playa del Norte marina rents boats of every size and kind from rowboats and sailboats to 10-person party boats. If you know somebody who lives there, you can enter as a guest. If not, head out and enjoy a stroll and the view.

3 reviews for Lake Mission Viejo
One of the city's top amenities
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/18/08
The lake is a great amenity for the city of Mission Viejo. Having the beach, grassy area, picnic tables, and playground make for a good outing. Add the boat rental, snack bar, basketball and volleyball and there is something for everyone. Weekends during the summer can get crowded though. It is actually a nice place to visit during the non-peak seasons.

Still enjoyable after all these years.

The lake is very large and beautiful. In the mornings the water appears to be like glass, and when the sun is out, it is blue. There's plenty of fish in the far end of the lake to go fishing, and there's a variety of boats (party boats, kayaks, paddle boats, etc.) to rent with a small fee. The lake is good for swimming, but I wouldn't recommend putting your head underwater. There's three different "beaches" on three different sides of the lake. There's also a couple volleyball nets for the sporty ones. It's a fun place to relax, have a barbecue, or a party!
