Venice City Beach
As far as all-around entertainment value, it's hard to beat this place. This is mainly due to the fact that it is inhabited by fire jugglers, weight lifters, self-proclaimed prophets, and other colorful folks. This is indeed the home of Muscle Beach, intense basketball pick-up games, legends of Jim Morrison and more mediocre food and cheap goods than you'll ever need. Parking can be a nightmare, and the area has a bad reputation for crime, especially after dark. The latter is getting better, however, since the cop-to-pedestrian ratio here on weekends is quite impressive. Parking spaces would be a problem on weekends - you may have to pay and park as all free spaces may be taken. Park and ride is also available. Prices drop at night and during the winter.
be very carefull, Venice is not what it used to be

In November 2007 my daughter was nearly killed by a drunken stranger by the drum circle. She and her friends had been to Venice Beach by day but never at night. They were minding their own business, and repelled by the people there and their behaviour, were preparing to leave when she was attacked with a padlock on a chain. We were told by the police that it can be a violent ugly place at night. Warn your teens to stay away!
You're all missing the point of it all. Venice is for locals and entertainment. It's a place to go to get away from the normality of everyday life. Unfortunately toursists love it too.
To all those with negative comments go back to your pristene lifestyles and your snowglobe worlds.
If you enjoy the smell of urine and incents burning, you will love Venice Beach. The beach is beautifully decorated with grafitti, homeless beggars and lined with junk shops.
The beach itself was ok. I would suggest to only come here if you enjoy people watching.
There is a little bit of everything on this Boardwalk. If you want any type of food, any type of t-shirt, and the best selection of Sarongs for men or women, you have found your place. If you fit in no where else on the face of the planet, you can fit in here. Art galleries, restaurants, tattoo parlors, piercing places, and some of the best rays on the coast, Venice is where you go when you need to find you again.
Expect the unexpected! Good pizza, ice cream- any kind of junk food that you have ever craved they have it. The beach is gorgeous, the beggars are hilarious(They're there for your entertainment-I suggest that you pay them. It helps crime go down). Bench press a bit a muscle beach and enjoy. I would go back in a minute. As a matter of fact we went there the 2 days that we were in L.A. I assure you, it's differentfrom your everyday life!
Certainly, the movie and TV crews must carefully plan their shots of Venice Beach to exclude the junkey looking junk shops that line the "boardwalk". There is a limited choice of places to eat and you have to watch out for the panhandlers front and back. The epitome of tourist traps everywhere. Generally rude people there, too.
