La Brea Tar Pits

Description

Once upon a time, Rancho La Brea or La Brea Tar Pits was only a Mexican land grant. Now a park, the tar pits have been the world's richest deposit of Ice Age fossils. More than 40,000 years ago mammoths, saber-toothed cats and dire wolves freely roamed the Los Angeles basin and became entrapped in the natural asphalt of the tar pits. During the summer months, visitors can observe the ongoing excavation from Pit 91. A visit to the on-site Page Museum is a must. Check website for further details.

The museum is very old and small. The place looks dead and hasn't had any renovations since the 1960s.

Didn't find this visit very interesting. Wouldn't recommend this attraction. Skip it and go to the beach.

Awesome!
By ,
It's an awesome place to visit - you learn a lot and see many new things that you did not know before. There is a lot to see, so plan to spend at least half to 3/4 of a day there.

Great for kids I suppose. Not much to see, nor much interaction.

top museum

Original, interesting, unexpected, for kids and adults. It was a surprise for my friends from Massachusetts to discover that part of Los Angeles. They loved it and are still talking about it!

It was ok.
By ,
If you're into artifacts and fossils, than this is the place for you. It was quite small. Some things were interesting such as the see through glass window with the scientists doing there thing, cleaning fossils and the sabre tooth sculpture. Nevertheless, it was ok.
