Page Museum at the La Brea Tar Pits
Page Museum shares the same location as the La Brea Tar Pits , so after you've witnessed the Pits which once entrapped Ice Age mammals, you can step inside and view the fossil remains. There are massive displays of mammoths, saber-toothed cats and an incredible collection of dire wolves. There are also exhibits of insects, plants and birds. Especially fascinating is the display of the skeletal remains of the La Brea Woman who is said to have lived about 9000 years ago. This is an extraordinary experience for the entire family.
This place was excellent, they were very classy & maintained a fine institution. It was kind of small, I was here almost 20 years ago as a kid & it hasn't changed much (if at all). But it was nice to see fossils of prehistoric mammals (no dinosaurs) & the pond where they kept a fish and turtles habitat. The employees were also very friendly & helpful. I visited the Museum of Tolerance too & I'd say the exact opposite about those guys. You might spend less than 30 minutes in there so if you're looking for something quick to do this place is definitely worth a look.
It was very interesting in the heart of Hollywood such a natural and interesting place to visit. Many species that i would never have thought existed in california.
We are from Cardiff in South Wales, United Kingdom and holiday in California each year.
I live near L.A., and I've been bringing kids here for years and we still find it enjoyable.
This is the perfect size (small) museum: enough info to whet your interest, interactive exhibits, great graphics with language you can understand, and impressive sabre tooth, dire wolf and wooly mammoth recreations. There's a beautiful courtyard atrium to catch some fresh air. Visit the gift shop for some token momento, and then let the kids run off some energy in the adjacent park. Kids love to roll down the hill that surrounds the museum.
The tar pits here are always a crowd-pleaser, and then if you want to continue the day, get the cooler from the car and have a picnic. Perfect family afternoon.
