This is a very unique bar in the center of Hollywood. Here, you can sip the expensive libation of your choice as you look down on the lights of Los Angeles from this transplanted Japanese mansion. The attached restaurant is good, but many ascend this hill just for the view. Be prepared to valet park - it is your only option. Make time to stroll through the eight acres of authentic gardens just below the bar. You can't get any closer to Japan without a passport.
My date and I were blown away not only by the view over looking LA but also the service provided by our waitress. The food was excellent and the sushi is great. We also had our drinks at the pagoda bar, which was nice and serene.
I was the maid of honor at my sisters wedding at Yamashiro- and the staff was nothing but professional, courteus and extremely accomodating to our needs- She had ordered enough Sushi for 100+ people- the presentation was out of this world- Entrees were ordered for 100+ people also, all were hot and very good.
I hope the previous review re: the valet parkers does not sour anyone's view of Yamashiro, because the staff was 100% accomodating and helpful from the rehersal dinner to the reception. We appreciated them during the crazy/stressful planning and wedding experience : )
Yamashiro in the past has been known mainly for the panoramic views it offers of Hollywood and the whole of LA, but the food has been criticised. I'd like to say that when i visited Yamashiro last month one of the managers told me that they have recently hired a great new chef, and my dining experience that evening was certainly an enormous improvement - great sushi and entrees, and really professional and attentive service. It's a great place to go on a date, and i found the valet parking more convenient than trying to self-park on that crazy hill.
If you are going to dine here, you will enjoy the view 100%. However, the food especially Entrees are awful. Sushi is just ok. If you have a choice, you should take sushi instead of Entrees. I don't think they know how to cook food. Moreover, when you park, you should self-park there if it is possible. One of the Valet guys stole my whole collection of CDs! I know my CDs were gone here at Yamashiro because right before I parked here, I was playing one of the CDs from my collection. I should've taken my CDs with me but still they shouldn't take ANYTHING from their customers' car, at all!!!! So PLEASE don't leave any valueable materials if you are going to valet park. This is my warning to you all.
